I wanted to pass on the details of an event running in Birmingham at the end of the month for learning about IT apprenticeships.

If you are thinking of adding to your staff it’s something to consider.

Full details below

Breathe new life into your business with an IT apprentice

Like many firms, you might be struggling to find new IT staff with the right technical and professional skills. Recruiting an IT apprentice could be the answer.

Over 90% of IT apprentice employers recommend them as a way of recruiting. And over half of those say their apprentices are more productive and loyal than they first expected.

Recruiting an apprentice is easier than you think

To make it simpler to recruit the right apprentice and ensure they add value to your business quicker, the National Skills Academy for IT has created the IT Gold Standard Apprenticeship, which:

has been developed with BT and other leading employers to match businesses’ needs today

is quality assured to the highest standards to ensure your apprentice gets the right training

provides you with free recruitment help to minimise the cost to your business

delivers personal development support to help your apprentice integrate with your business and customers seamlessly.

Come to our Breakfast Networking event on IT apprentice recruitment

To find out how you can benefit from recruiting an apprentice – and potentially be eligible for a government grant of up to £1,500 – come to our Birmingham Breakfast Networking event.

It’s taking place from 7.30 am on Tuesday 30th April 2013 at NITP Birmingham, Floor 2, Cornwall House, Lionel Street, Birmingham.  There will be tea, coffee and pastries and a chance to network with other employers who already have, or are thinking of, employing an IT apprentice.

Also apprenticeship experts from BT, the IT Skills Academy and NITP, our approved Training Partner, will be on hand to discuss:

  • the benefits apprentices bring to BT’s business and how the company will help you realise them too
  • what makes the IT Gold Standard Apprenticeship so different to other apprenticeship programmes
  • detailed information about the support you’ll get – from recruiting your first apprentice to them becoming a loyal member of your team.

Our speaker this month will be

Mark Paine, Account Director at Avnet

Mark will be giving an overview of the key highlights of the latest Microsoft technology including Windows 8, Office 365 and Windows Server 2012. He will discuss how changing computing trends and customer needs are continuing to shape the functionality and role the technology plays, and ultimately how partners can benefit from this knowledge and insight.

Our second session will be our usual discussion format.

The currently proposed topic is

"You as the product”

In light of the recent Google Reader closure announcement what other tools or services do you, your business or your clients depend on that could be taken away? Do you have a plan for this eventuality? What are the alternatives

Think Twitter/ Facebook / Linkedin / WordPress / Google as starting points
